It’s gonna be sum party!

We’ve been installed in the wonderful Sum Studios over a year now, and it’s been quite a year. The studios are up to 75% occupancy already and work is well underway to transform what’s left of the old Anns Grove School into purpose built artists studios (see below – Stabby women by Kid Acne) and a series of community spaces. To celebrate a great first year, we’re working with Heeley Development Trust to throw an equally great party.

We worked on the Sum Studios branding last year, naming this place, creating a visual and verbal identity and working on the building’s interior design. We also pulled off an awesome launch party, complete with milk monitors, school photos, dinner ladies and a school disco delivered beautifully by Jarvis Cocker, Richard Hawley, Steve Mackey and our own Pipes.

It’s going to be hard to top last year – so we’re not going to try. Instead we’re doing an open to everyone free for all outdoor party with a festival feel. There’s going to be sum food (pizza, mexican street, slow cook BBQ), sum drink (chin chin, Gatsby on the Go), sum music (yeaahhhhh Hot Soles, Club & Spades, Mike Hughes – see both below, Tandem; plus DJs Chris Duckenfield, Winston Hazel, Stephen Singleton and The DJ Pipes). And probably sum embarrassing dancing. But that’s how the story of this place goes on…once the site of learning, playground misdemeanours,  a shelter in the Sheffield blitz, and a place of dereliction for seven years, bring on the embarrassing dancing! And the new memories! And the beautiful summer nights out!
